Heroes Con re-Dux

Heroes Con 2009

As I get older leaving the family is getting harder and harder. I just miss the family too much and hate being away from them. It’s going to be cool in the coming years as they get older and then they can start coming with me and enjoying Heroes as much as I do. It’s a great show and I love it to death. It’s a comicbook/art show and the people and fans are just fantastic. One of the greatest things to happen to me was not the money I made, but when a fan comes up and says, “Mr. Deering, do you mind signing some books?” “Not at all”, I say and he proceeds to pull out multiple copies of a bunch of the books I’ve done in the past. A BUNCH. Like 4 copies of Supergirl #26. And a few others as well. Then he goes through my cheap books and buys all the ones that he was missing. That just does the heart good, you know?

Another highlight, and this isn’t even Heroes/comics related, was meeting up with my old Army buddy Cedric Tucker. We went through AIT and our first duty station, in Panama, together. I hadn’t seen or heard from him in 14 years and it was great seeing him again. This proves the power of Facebook. We had some stories for each other, that’s for sure.

I actually did some sketches at the show. So to everyone who has to stare at my crappy sketches and those 2 guys whose sketchbooks I ruined, I'm sorry.

I am a Copic marker convert. Wow! Those things are amazing.

A shout out to all my Sidebar messageboard brothers. Great meeting all of you.

There are pics from the show up on my site;

Hello, my name is Marc Deering and I am an inker of various comic books. I post here about lots of different things not always related to comics, but usually updating the viewers on the projects that I’m involved with as well as just art in general.

I’ve worked for Image, Avatar Press, Devils Due Publishing, DC Comics, as well as many other smaller publishers. Titles have ranged from Blacklight, ShadowHawk, DemonSlayer, Grimms Fairy Tales, Supergirl, London Horror Comic, DragonLance, Resident Evil to Miranda Mercury. Styles range from the cartoony, to the hyper-photo-realistic, to the superhero, to the just plain bad. :)

I'm what some would call a "traditional" inker, meaning I put brush to paper. I use a Scharff 3000 #3 Brush and a Windsor Newton Series 7 Sable brush. .13 and .25 Rotring Rapdiograph tech Pens along with Hunt 102 Crow Quill Nibs. I use Speedball and KOH-I-NOOR 3080 waterproof drawing ink.

I do not digitally ink anything. That takes all the fun out of it.

Hey Marc, had a good time this past weekend at Heroes. I was half way home when I realized I forgot to get the Thor print. haha. The book is nice man, I have flipped through it to look at the art, can't wait to read it. Take care man, see you on the Sidebar forums.
Been practicing like hell to get clean line work like yours, great stuff you've got here!
Keep practicing. That's what does it. :)

Hey thanks for talking to me today. I was just excited to see someone who lives in my area in the newspaper for comics. I put some rough stuff up here on deviant as you suggested. How do I find more local people in the area on this site?
It was good talking to you too.
You can try searching for people in the Virginia area.
:)
