Just Stuff

I JUST finished off my first 4 issue mini series, Snake-Eyes, for IDW and I am HAPPY. It looks good, we're really proud of it so all we can do is hope the rest of you like it too.
The folks over at The Comics Continuum have posted a preview of this weeks' Snake-Eyes #2, hitting stands this coming Wed, Nov. 11th.

Hello, my name is Marc Deering and I am an inker of various comic books. I post here about lots of different things not always related to comics, but usually updating the viewers on the projects that I’m involved with as well as just art in general.

I’ve worked for Image, Avatar Press, Devils Due Publishing, DC Comics, as well as many other smaller publishers. Titles have ranged from Blacklight, ShadowHawk, DemonSlayer, Grimms Fairy Tales, Supergirl, London Horror Comic, DragonLance, Resident Evil to Miranda Mercury. Styles range from the cartoony, to the hyper-photo-realistic, to the superhero, to the just plain bad. :)

I'm what some would call a "traditional" inker, meaning I put brush to paper. I use a Scharff 3000 #3 Brush and a Windsor Newton Series 7 Sable brush. .13 and .25 Rotring Rapdiograph tech Pens along with Hunt 102 Crow Quill Nibs. I use Speedball and KOH-I-NOOR 3080 waterproof drawing ink.

I do not digitally ink anything. That takes all the fun out of it.

How do you get the really fine lines with teh number 3? I am practicing but the still come out to think!

hey, so i've always wondered this and figured going right to the source would be the best idea. what is there to inking other than tracing? i know there is much more involved in it than it seems, but i've never fully known what it was. i definitely respect inking as an art form after trying it with my own stuff and finding it much more involved than just tracing, i'd just like to know what makes a good inker, what your process is and what not. any info you could give me would be much appreciated

That's a loaded post! :)
Simply put, inking is drawing with ink. There is no part of it that is tracing, in the technical sense. The best examples to follow would be classic examples of penciler/inker teams. George Perez/Jerry Ordway,:icontimtownsend: :iconmarkmorales: :icondexstar71:are perfect examples. My process? Look around my site here of my actual website;
